Abstract
I'm constantly amazed about the truth of the saying “there is nothing new under the sun.” For over a year, I trumpeted the claim that the 2008 GAC midyear meeting was the first to be held outside North America. It turns out that this isn't true. Wafik Beydoun, during his chairmanship in 1996, held a midyear meeting in Pau. However, it is true that—other than Pau, Calgary (in 2006), and this year in Rijswijk, the Netherlands—all GAC meetings had been in Houston. Of course, many dedicated GAC members live and work in Houston, but the current GAC officers believe it is important that GAC activities better reflect the reality of globalization. Consequently, we hope that Houston meetings become just one option.
