Abstract
A critical component within the juvenile justice is system is reentry, that is, when a delinquent youth reenters the community after being committed to a facility for a specific period of time. In the late 1980s, aftercare, a unique programmatic combination of services and supervision, was introduced as a means of addressing the various challenges that youth and their families face during reentry. This entry outlines the reentry process and describes various aftercare initiatives that have emerged during the past decades. A brief overview of aftercare research and its relevance for youth corrections is also provided.
