CANNIESBURN MICROSURGICAL WORKSHOPS Canniesburn Microsurgical Workshops are run throughout the year. At each course, up to four candidates are taught the basis of microsurgical anastomosis. The workshops are practical, with every candidate having an up-to-date operating microscope with which to operate on vessels and nerves. Tutors are always present, and teaching videos are used to introduce most techniques. The location of the laboratory within the Plastic Surgery Unit at Canniesburn Hospital allows access to the operating theaters there to observe free tissue transfer and other microsurgical procedures being carried out in clinical practice. FELLOWSHIPS IN EXPERIMENTAL MICROSURGERY Two positions are available at the Microsurgery Centre of the Microsearch Foundation of Australia, as Research Fellows in Microsurgery and Laser Surgery. These annual positions next commence in July 2001 for a 12-month period. Applicants should have completed at least part of their training in orthopaedic, plastic, or general surgery. The positions would be most suited to surgeons interested in reconstructive microsurgery. Preference will be given to surgeons with previous exposure to basic and advanced microsurgical techniques. Additional positions are available for self-funded surgeons for 6- or 12-month fellowships. They might include an initial comprehensive training period on basic and advanced microsurgical techniques and laser technology.
