Cet article présente la méthode par la théorie enracinée comme une approche d’analyse pouvant mettre à jour un phénomène peu connu telle la collaboration professionnelle d’un petit groupe d’enseignants à l’élémentaire. Étant tissée de relations interpersonnelles, l’objet de recherche se prête à cette méthode d’analyse. Elle se présente comme un choix logique servant à étudier la réalité interactive qui prévaut au sein du groupe. Le procédé analytique est présenté en détails, puis le lecteur est convié à la démarche d’analyse en profondeur de l’étude citée en exemple, ainsi qu’aux résultats qui en découlent. Cette méthode comporte ses limites mais aussi ses forces, comme être porteuse de sens découverts par émergence, et de permettre au chercheur d’approfondir sa compréhension de la réalité qu’il interprète.
