Abstract
The analogy of the mosaic is useful in answering three questions: How are the tiles in the mosaic distributed? Do the tiles all have equal influence? What is the nature of each of the tiles in the total design? Ethnic mosaic applies this to the variety of ethnic and cultural groups in plural societies. Some think the model of mosaic is too boundary oriented and have suggested that we need to focus more on ethnic networks and social ties to link the diversity of ethnic groups in order to encourage cooperation and democratic working together.
