Abstract
The Anarchy refers to the period following the death of Henry I (1135), and the sporadic yet ongoing struggle between the factions supporting his nephew Stephen of Blois and those supporting his daughter Matilda. The fighting took in both England and Normandy, and the instability continued until the accession of Matilda's son Henry II in 1154.
