Abstract
The Fellowship of the Maple Leaf (FML), a Church of England missionary society, relied on workers like Monica Storrs to link Britain and Canada. Until World War II, the western Canadian missionary dioceses of the Church of England in Canada relied on the United Kingdom more than eastern Canada for personnel and financial aid. Recent studies of British imperialism have emphasized the influence of empire on domestic British history. One English migrant, the Reverend George Exton Lloyd, organized the FML when he returned to London during the First World War, and another returned migrant, the Reverend Philip Andrews, sustained the Fellowship until the 1960s. The aims of the Fellowship reflect their dual interest in Britain and Canada, a duality that was united in their aspirations for a strong Christian British Empire.
