Abstract
Rohinton Mistry's evocative and layered fiction has received widespread attention since he published his first two short stories – “One Sunday” and “Auspicious Occasion” – in the early 1980s. His writing focuses on the minority Parsi community in Bombay (now Mumbai), India, and occasionally on Parsi migrants to Canada. His tragicomic postcolonial fictions attend to recurrent themes of the oppression of the weak at the hands of the influential, and people torn between old and new ways.
