Cet article porte sur l’expérience de la première année d’enseignement au primaire. Il expose les éléments essentiels d’une étude doctorale effectuée dans une perspective phénoménologico-herméneutique auprès de cinq enseignantes débutantes. Cette étude a contribué à faire la lumière sur la manière de vivre l’intégration dans le monde de l’enseignement et à clarifier dans quelle mesure le contexte scolaire favorise le développement de la personnalité professionnelle des novices. L’article présente succinctement la problématique, la méthodologie et les résultats de la recherche. À partir des témoignages des enseignantes, l’étude met en évidence les facteurs favorables ou défavorables au développement professionnel et à la maîtrise des nouvelles responsabilités. La prise en compte de ces facteurs vient appuyer l’importance de s’intéresser à l’insertion professionnelle et permet de proposer des recommandations susceptibles d’améliorer les conditions actuelles de l’entrée dans la profession enseignante.
