Abstract
This is a protocol for a Cochrane Review (Intervention). The objectives are as follows: To assess the safety and efficacy of antidepressants in treating psychosis and agitation in adults with Alzheimer's, vascular or mixed dementia. The effects of different classes of antidepressants (SSRIs, TCAs, trazodone, other antidepressants) will be compared to either placebo or alternative psychotropic medications including antipsychotics, benzodiazepines, anticonvulsants, cholinesterase inhibitors or memantine.
