Résumé Dans de nombreux secteurs d’activité, les achats constituent un poste de dépenses qui offre un potentiel appréciable d’économies. Par ailleurs, face à des fournisseurs dont la taille est de plus en plus imposante, des gestionnaires peuvent être tentés par le recours à un groupe d’achats en vue de rétablir leur pouvoir de négociation. Cependant, les organisations qui entendent faire appel à cette pratique doivent en saisir très rapidement la dynamique particulière, car le groupe d’achats est souvent une organisation distincte et relativement autonome des membres qui la composent. Ces membres doivent donc voir à baliser son développement. Justement, cet article, qui est le fruit d’une étude en profondeur des groupes d’achats dans le secteur de la santé, cherche à préciser les phases de l’évolution des groupes d’achats ainsi que les facteurs qui interviennent, selon les phases de développement. L’analyse de ces facteurs permettra de formuler une série d’observations pouvant guider les réflexions de décideurs qui souhaiteraient mettre en œuvre un groupe d’achats ou définir de nouvelles orientations pour celui-ci.
