Abstract
This issue and the July-August 2002 (vol. 35, no. 4) issue are collections of papers presented at the National Educational Sociology Committee Conference in Nanjing, China, November 2000. Attendees at the conference comprised about eighty Chinese scholars from the mainland, a small delegation from Taiwan, and the editor of this issue, who came from Canada. Only papers by mainland Chinese scholars are included here to provide readers with an overview of the state of the discipline of sociology of education in the People's Republic of China. The organizers identified two conference themes: the internationalization and indigenization of sociology of education in China and research methodology. This journal issue focuses on the problems of internationalization and indigenization.
