Abstract
The human bone marrow is one of the most dynamic tissues in the adult body, generating over 2 × 1011 new blood cells everyday. The production of distinct blood cell lineages from a common pool of hematopoietic stem cells is tightly regulated. Substantial progress in the study of hematopoietic cell ontogeny and marrow biology under normal and disease conditions has resulted from the development of culture methods to detect clonogenic hematopoietic progenitor cells (1).
