La notion de prévention, bien que séduisante, comporte son lot d’ambiguïtés. Directement rattachée au modèle médical de la (psycho) pathologie, les diverses formes de prévention apparaissent finalement comme un même effort de redressement posé à des moments différents. Identifier prévention primaire à promotion ne fait, d’autre part, qu’entretenir la confusion et maintient une référence fautive à un modèle médical absent des opérations de développement communautaire. Cette réflexion précède une seconde partie où l’on retrouve la description d’une recherche concernant la problématique de l’abus et de la négligence envers les enfants. Les différents niveaux d’intervention associés à la démarche de recherche tiennent tantôt de l’intervention précoce et tardive, et tantôt d’une approche de promotion du développement de l’enfant et de sa communauté. C’est finalement un double modèle interactif qui se dégage de cette exploration : intervention précoce et tardive promotion, individus-communauté.
