Abstract
This entry gives a snapshot of the history of creationism, a phenomenon that mostly refers to the Protestant antievolutionist movement that began in the United States during the 1960s. It also addresses how certain proponents, who have sought to have a more scientific creationism included in US public school curricula, have ultimately faced US court rulings declaring scientific creationism to be biblically founded and thus unconstitutional for teaching in public schools. It then discusses how, despite setbacks, creationism of all kinds is nevertheless expanding globally and through other religious traditions.
