Abstract
Introduction: Determining the frequency of phenotypes of ABO and RH is important in transfusion medicine, it allows first to know the distribution of these systems in the region and second to establish a database of donors which have rare phenotypes.It also has an interest in anthropological studies.The objective of this study was to determine the phenotypic and gene frequencies ABO and RH D in the Eastern population of Morocco. Methods:The study conducted at the Regional Centre for Blood Transfusion of Oujda has included 2763 donors from different cities of Eastern Morocco.ABO and RH were performed respectively in microplate technology and opaline plate, using monoclonal reagents.Results: The gene frequencies calculated for the ABO system vary between 0.574 and 0.739 for O, 0.186 and 0.271 for A and 0.09 and 0.181 for B. Average gene frequencies of D and d are respectively 0.692 and 0.308 in the region.Conclusion: The variations between the frequencies in cities are probably due to the different origins of the populations of the region; indeed, the region witnessed the migration of different populations of Berbers and Arabs.
