A lthough several provincial op- tometry Acts were proclaimed as early as 1909 it wasn't until June 30, 1948 that the Royal assent was granted to establish the Canadian Association of Optometrists (CAO).If you asked those enthusiastic optometrists that formed the CAO, 'What do you think optometry will be like 50 or 60 years from now', how do you think they would have answered?Similarly, back then, if you asked the average businessman, banker, farmer, laborer, car salesman, electrical or telephone operator, 'what do you think your occupation, profession or technologies would be like in 2008?' I doubt if anyone could have predicted or foreseen the way in which computers, cell phones, satellites, Blackberry, TVs, or automobiles have developed and dominate our lives today.Consider some of the changes in optometry over the past 60 years:
