Welchen Einfluss haben Globalisierungsprozesse auf Autonomiebestrebungen? Diese Arbeit leistet einen wichtigen Beitrag zu dieser Diskussion, indem sie den Zusammenhang anhand der Autonomiebestrebungen in Südtirol, Flandern und Quebec untersucht. Auf den drei Ebenen International, National und Regional zeigt die Autorin auf, wie ein neuer Gesellschaftskonflikt zwischen Globalisierungsbefürwortern und Globalisierungsskeptikern entsteht, der sich auf innerstaatliche Prozesse auswirken kann. Abbilder dieses Phänomens sind der Aufstieg der diversen populistischen Parteien auf beiden Seiten des Spektrums und der Rückzug ins Nationale oder Regionale. In Regionen mit Autonomiebewegung wachsen gleichzeitig die regionale Homogenität und Identität in Abgrenzung zum Staat. Weisen diese außerdem eine Art quasi-staatliche Konfiguration auf, so führen Globalisierungsprozesse zu zunehmenden Autonomiebestrebungen oder sogar zur Sezession.
