Neste trabalho, propomos demonstrar, a partir da análise da definição de alguns dicionários e de um teórico da Lexicografia, como o termo locução vem sendo conceituado. Para isso, partimos de um dicionário de língua latina, de um de Linguística e de alguns dicionários de língua geral (de diferentes épocas). Em seguida, por tratar-se também de nossa área de estudos, discutimos o conceito de locução, com base nas contribuições do lexicógrafo Julio Casares Sánchez, uma das grandes referências sobre o tema, nos estudos fraseológicos. Notamos que essas obras lexicográficas, em alguns momentos, aproximam a sua definição ou ao que se refere à pronúncia, ou tendem a uma classificação gramatical e/ou lexical. Todavia, sempre se remetem às locuções como um agrupamento de palavras. Casares, por sua vez, a respeito dessas unidades, as conceitua também como uma combinação estável de duas ou mais palavras pertencentes ao âmbito da oração, mas salienta que seu significado provém da soma dos significados contidos em seus componentes.
