Abstract
La spectaculaire recrudescence de la piraterie anglo-américaine dans les Caraïbes après 1715 a coïncidé avec une importante révolte jacobite dans les îles britanniques. Dans les années qui suivirent, les pirates utilisèrent les symboles et la rhétorique jacobites pour défier l’autorité royale dans les colonies et en haute mer. En 1719, plusieurs bandes de maraudeurs perpétrèrent même leurs crimes au nom d’une résistance légitime contre le roi George I et son régime. Toutefois, toutes les références à la cause jacobite étaient superficielles et ne représentaient en rien un soutien actif à la cause des Stuarts en exil.
