Abstract
Stephen Leacock was the English‐speaking world's best‐known writer of humorous fiction from 1910, the year he self‐published Literary Lapses , until his death in 1944. He spent his working life as a professor of political economy at McGill University in Montreal, publishing widely in his discipline as well as in history, biography, literary criticism, and travel. But it is as a writer of comic fictions that Leacock came to international attention. And though the book of miscellaneous sketches was his preferred form, Leacock's best fiction comprised the two short story cycles Sunshine Sketches of a Little Town (1912) and Arcadian Adventures with the Idle Rich (1914).
