Abstract
A previously healthy 4.5-year-old East Indian girl presented with an 18-month history of asymptomatic erythematous papules over the dorsum of both feet. Her past medical history was unremarkable. On physical examination, she had skin-coloured, erythematous domed-shaped papules coalescing into an annular ring measuring 5 cm over the dorsum of her right foot (Figure 1) and an arcuate collection of papules over the dorsum of the left ankle (Figure 2). There was slight central hyperpigmentation and no overlying scale. A diagnosis of granuloma annulare (GA) was made. GA is a benign, relatively common skin eruption. The localized subtype is asymptomatic and self-resolves within 2 years (1,2). Other subtypes include generalized, subcutaneous, and perforating. The localized form accounts for 75% of GA and usually presents as annular skin-coloured or erythematous papules on the dorsal hands or feet (1,2). Localized GA occurs mostly in children and adults under age 30, with a 2:1 female-to-male predominance and no racial predilection (1).
