Abstract
Die Autoren haben die Daten einer im Jahr 2008 veröffentlichten randomisierten, kontrollierten Studie einer Sekundäranalyse unterzogen. Teilnehmer waren 107 Patienten mit einer symptomatischen medialen Kniegelenkarthrose. Etwa die Hälfte der Probanden nahm an einem 12-wöchigen physiotherapeutisch betreuten Muskeltraining teil. Ziel der unter Anleitung sowie mehrfach pro Woche im häuslichen Umfeld durchgeführten Übungen war eine Kräftigung der Knieextensoren. Die Patienten der Kontrollgruppe erhielten kein Muskelaufbautraining und wurden angehalten, während des Studienzeitraums kein Übungsprogramm neu zu beginnen. Zu Studienbeginn sowie nach 12 Wochen wurde die Spitzenkraft der Knieextensoren mithilfe eines isokinetischen Dynamometers objektiviert. Schmerzen und funktionelle Einschränkungen erfassten die Wissenschaftler mithilfe des Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC).
