[591-87-7] C5H8O2 (MW 100.12) InChI = 1S/C5H8O2/c1-3-4-7-5(2)6/h3H,1,4H2,2H3 InChIKey = FWZUNOYOVVKUNF-UHFFFAOYSA-N (alkene with significant reactivity; susceptible to allylation and cross-coupling reactions) Alternate Name: acetic acid 2-propenyl ester or 3-acetoxy-1-propene. Physical Data: bp 104–105 °C; 0.928 g ml−1 Solubility: sol in most organic solvents. Form Supplied in: colorless liquid; widely available. Purification: removal of peroxides is achieved by treatment with crystalline ferrous ammonium sulfate followed by washing with aqueous solutions of 5% NaHCO3 and saturated CaCl2 and then drying over Na2SO3 and subsequent fractional distillation. Handling, Storage, and Precautions: allyl acetate is an irritant and can be toxic if inhaled or ingested. Allyl acetate is a cancer-suspect agent and should be used only in a well-ventilated fume hood. Toxicity (oral) rat LD50: 130 mg kg−1. Allyl acetate is flammable and is incompatible with strong oxidizing agents, bases, and peroxides. To prevent leakage, store in a cool place.
