Abstract
Abstract In Roman religion, Victoria was the divine embodiment of victory, equivalent to the Greek goddess Nike, often appearing as a winged figure. Several temples were erected in her honor in Rome, with the most famous located on the Palatine Hill, erected in 294 BCE . Victoria also had a conspicuous presence in the temple of Jupiter Optimus Maximus, where she was represented by a golden statue sent by Hieron II of Syracuse after the Roman defeat by Hannibal at Lake Trasimene in 217 BCE .
