Abstract
Aortic valve replacement is one of the most successful cardiac surgical operations, indisputably prolonging and improving life. Recently, various novel concepts have emerged regarding prosthesis selection, hemodynamic and durability optimization, and postoperative left ventricular remodeling. The University of Ottawa Heart Institute valve surgery follow-up clinic is one of the largest in the world, with over 11,000 patients followed over the course of several decades, allowing longitudinal analyses that have brought new inferences regarding outcomes of aortic valve replacement. Salient findings will be reviewed in this presentation.
