Abstract
A partir de un corpus de crónicas publicadas en la prensa chilena desde la primera mitaddel XX hasta mediados del mismo, este artículo está centrado en el acto de escritura -desde el momento de sentarse a escribir-, así como también en las motivaciones y hechos que la anteceden a este inicio. Por un lado, Hernán Díaz Arrieta (Alone) a través de distintos medios de prensa, como también Joaquín Edwards Bello, desde su tribuna en La Nación, orientan a quienes quieren ser escritores. Por otro, Jenaro Prieto, Teófilo Cid y Arturo Méndez Carrasco hablan desde su rol de empleados de escritorio, en el que el ejercicio escritural es solo la principal característica de sus trabajos y que no necesariamente tienen relación con la literatura y/o el periodismo.
