Cet article traite de la question du « réel et son double » dans la création théâtrale au secondaire (2 e cycle); la pièce de théâtre et la représentation publique comme le double du réel et le personnage comme le double de son créateur, un double appréhendé, idéalisé, contesté, à l’opposé, désiré. Ce sont des signes à la fois référentiels et autoréférentiels. Comment la question du double se dégage-t-elle du travail de création et en quoi cela est-il significatif dans le cheminement de l’élève d’un point de vue éducatif, artistique ainsi que du point de vue du spectateur? Cette étude réalisée dans un contexte universitaire de 3 e cycle se fait à partir de l’analyse de contenu de trois créations théâtrales (textes, mises en situation, personnages, mise en scène et représentations) et d’une série d’entrevues semi-structurées avec six élèves devenus adultes (de 32 à 36 ans, soit de 16 à 20 ans après l’expérience vécue). Enfin, quel a été le sens profond de cette expérience de création théâtrale pour ces jeunes à l’aube de la vie adulte? Ultimement, il s’agit de comprendre que l’essence de cet apprentissage puisse se situer du côté de l’être, de l’existence même.
