Cet ouvrage remarquablement documenté est écrit, sous la direction d'Alain Grenier (professeur à l'université du Québec à Montréal) et de Dieter Müller (université de Umeå, Suède), par un collectif d'auteurs réunis au sein de l'IPTRN (Réseau international de recherche sur le tourisme polaire) créé en 2007 à l'initiative d'Alain A. Grenier.Dans cette première publication, ce réseau s'attache à étudier l'émergence récente du tourisme dans les régions polaires, car c'est de ce point de vue zonal qu'est définie cette modalité récente du tourisme, et les opportunités et les menaces induites.La dimension réticulaire permet une approche variée et enrichie par la diversité des terrains -Antarctique, Nunavik, Laponie suédoise, norvégienne ou finlandaise -du double regard spatial et sociétal revendiqué dès l'introduction, signée par Alain Grenier.
