As doenc ¸as relacionadas ao metabolismo lipídico e lipoproteico são comumente observadas em obesos e indivíduos com resistência à insulina e normalmente são denominadas ''dislipidemia diabética''.A dislipidemia diabética é caracterizada por altos níveis de triglicérides no plasma, reduc ¸ão no colesterol de lipoproteína de alta densidade e aumento nos níveis de pequenas partículas de lipoproteína de baixa densidade (LDL), que, em conjunto, aumentam o risco de aterosclerose prematura e doenc ¸a cardiovascular.Essas anomalias lipídicas resultam da superproduc ¸ão de lipoproteínas hepáticas e intestinais ricas em triglicérides, que são rapidamente metabolizadas para gerar partículas de lipoproteínas remanescentes altamente aterogênicas.Apesar de as complicac ¸ões cardiovasculares serem comumente observadas somente mais tarde na vida adulta, a gênese da aterosclerose comec ¸a na infância e os fatores
