Abstract
Cet article porte sur l’articulation entre les usages et les représentations qui émergent au Québec et en Acadie au XIXe siècle, dans un contexte sociopolitique où se redéfinissent les communautés canadiennes-françaises. À partir de l’examen d’un corpus de correspondance familiale et de discours métalinguistiques, nous montrons que les variétés linguistiques en Acadie et dans la vallée du Saint-Laurent durant le XIXe siècle partagent de nombreux traits, largement caractéristiques de ceux ayant cours avant la Révolution française ; toutefois, les commentaires sociolinguistiques tendent à gommer la convergence entre usages acadiens et laurentiens, au profit de la filiation française.
