Abstract
Le Canada, qui se classe au deuxième rang mondial en termes de superficie et représente la onzième puissance économique de l’OCDE, possède d’abondantes ressources naturelles. Il figure parmi les premiers producteurs d’énergie du monde et parmi les grands producteurs et exportateurs de produits agricoles. Son vaste territoire abrite une grande diversité d’écosystèmes et d’immenses étendues de nature sauvage. Ce troisième Examen environnemental du Canada montre que le pays a découplé sa croissance économique de diverses sources de pressions environnementales. Il reste néanmoins confronté à plusieurs défis liés à la consommation élevée d’énergie et de ressources, aux importantes émissions de gaz à effet de serre et aux pressions locales exercées sur la biodiversité et les ressources hydriques. Bien que la plupart des Canadiens jouissent d’une bonne qualité de l’air et d’un accès satisfaisant aux services environnementaux, beaucoup de collectivités autochtones ne bénéficient pas d’un accès égal à certains services essentiels et se trouvent davantage exposées aux risques environnementaux.
