L’article a pour objectif de mettre en rapport les processus d’inférence en jeu dans les jugements en acte des enseignants lorsqu’ils corrigent les copies de leurs élèves et dans l’activité interprétative des chercheurs qui étudient ces mêmes jugements évaluatifs. Les notions d’abduction et d’enquête sont convoquées pour questionner la construction de significations dans les deux pratiques sociales dont l’une, l’activité évaluative, doit assumer un rapport constitutif à la référence et à la norme. Par le jeu de la comparaison entre évaluation et recherche scientifique, la réflexion théorique et méthodologique proposée dans l’article souhaite montrer que le rapport entre ces deux enquêtes distinctes relève plus de la distance que de la séparation stricto sensu. Ainsi, il apparaît finalement possible de repenser les jugements évaluatifs situés des enseignants qui, dans certaines conditions restant encore à préciser, pourraient prétendre à un caractère épistémologique ou, en d’autres mots, de « construction de connaissances ».
