Significance However, after the fourth round of talks in Washington to decide the fate of the two-decade old North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), US demands are creating an increasingly acrimonious atmosphere. Impacts Trump-related currency pressure could boost Canadian and Mexican exports. Canada and Mexico will look to abroad for diversifying trade, but transitioning from US dependence will be slow, particuarly for Mexico. Sensitive election cycles in all three countries could see talks drag on beyond 2019.
