Faserbildung: Zn(salphen)-Komplexe wie der im Bild gezeigte bilden im festen Zustand Nanofibrillen. Bei dieser Aggregatbildung werden intermolekulare Zn⋅⋅⋅O-Wechselwirkungen genutzt, die eine polymere Struktur mit einem (ZnO)n-Rückgrat stabilisieren. Über die Wahl der peripheren Substituenten sind lumineszierende Gele zugänglich, und der Durchmesser der Fasern kann eingestellt werden.
