Memoria declarativa en personas mayores con demencia, deterioro cognitivo leve y controles

Existe una sólida evidencia de que las personas mayores con demencia muestran un rendimiento deficiente en memoria declarativa respecto de las personas sanas. Sin embargo, son escasos los estudios sobre las posibles diferencias en el rendimiento de la memoria declarativa (verbal) entre pacientes con deterioro cognitivo leve (DCL) de tipo amnésico y sanos, aunque los datos no son concluyentes. Objetivo: Determinar el rendimiento de la memoria declarativa en tres grupos de personas mayores; con probable demencia, con DCL y “sanos”. Material y Métodos: Se utilizó la Evaluación Cognitiva de Montreal (MoCA) y un instrumento basado en el Rey Auditory Verbal Learning Test. Resultados: Se observaron diferencias en el rendimiento memorístico entre los participantes con demencia y aquellos con DCL y “sanos”, pero no entre estos dos últimos grupos. Se hallaron correlaciones significativas moderadas y positivas entre la MoCA y las palabras recordadas. Discusión: El principal resultado de esta investigación es que el déficit en memoria declarativa se manifiesta entre el grupo con probable demencia y en los otros dos; sin embargo, no se observa entre el grupo de DCL y los controles “sanos”, por lo que se puede concluir que dichos resultados aportan evidencia de que, en general, los participantes con DCL no muestran déficits en memoria declarativa, lo que puede atribuirse a la heterogenidad del DCL. Por ello, surge la necesidad de continuar explorando el rendimiento de la memoria declarativa diferenciándolo según los subtipos de DCL.
