Abstract
Slope movements in open pit operations are most often slow movements which are well beyond the theoretical determination. Monitoring and field measurement of such movements plays a significant part in management of risk arising from pit slope instabilities. This paper describes, in general terms, the current practices as used in the open pits of Foothills region of Alberta. A Risk Mitigation Plan (RMP) has been developed to deal with the various levels of risks arising due to pit slope instability.
