Balai Pemantapan Kawasan Hutan Wilayah I Medan merupakan salah satu unit organisasi pemerintah pada Kementerian Lingkungan Hidup dan Kehutanan. Dimana pimpinan serta para pegawai di BPKH I Medan sering melakukan perjalanan dinas antar kota maupun diluar kota. Pembuatan surat perintah perjalanan dinas (SPPD) di BPKH I Medan masih dilakukan secara sederhana dengan pencatatan manual dan belum menggunakan aplikasi khusus. Hal ini mengakibatkan kurang efektif dan efisien, baik dari segi materi maupun waktu, terjadi kehilangan data perjalanan dinas karena proses dan tata cara penyimpanan data yang tidak baik serta membutuhkan waktu lama jika kepala dinas membutuhkan laporan perjalanan dinas dalam waktu satu tahun maka harus membuka kembali berkas-berkas yang sudah tersimpan. Oleh karena itu, diperlukan perangkat lunak untuk menangani masalah tersebut. Sistem yang diusulkan yaitu Perancangan Sistem Informasi Surat Perintah Perjalanan Dinas Berbasis Website yang di bangun dengan menerapkan metode Unified Modelling Language (UML). Dengan adanya Perancangan Sistem Informasi SPPD Berbasis Website ini maka akan mempermudah pegawai dalam pembuatan SPPD yang efektif, efisien, akurat, dan hemat waktu serta akan menjaga keamanan berkas SPPD yang mana berkas tersebut tersimpan dalam database khusus
