This article describes updates to the recommendations for hepatitis B vaccination in the US. Most notably, the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) now recommends universal hepatitis B vaccination for all adults (without a history of hepatitis B infection) aged 19-59 years, as well as those 60 and older with known risk factors for hepatitis B such as liver disease. Thus, all transplant candidates and recipients aged 19-59 years, and all adult liver transplant candidates regardless of age, should be vaccinated for hepatitis B. Universal hepatitis B vaccination is already recommended for children.
