Abstract
À partir d’un travail ethnographique mené dans un quartier montréalais où trente-neuf récits biographiques ont été recueillis, cet article s’intéresse aux parcours périnataux de femmes sud-asiatiques récemment immigrées, et plus particulièrement à leurs expériences d’accouchement. Dans un contexte québécois où l’accouchement par voie basse est préconisé, le fait de donner naissance au sein des hôpitaux publics montréalais semble avoir favorisé, chez les femmes rencontrées, une réappropriation de l’accouchement. Elle procèderait du sentiment des parturientes que leur rythme corporel est mieux respecté, ce qui leur aurait permis de se sentir davantage protagonistes de cette expérience. Enfin, nous analyserons les dynamiques identitaires à l’œuvre à la fois à travers les différents positionnements des femmes vis-à-vis de la péridurale et à travers la mobilisation des douleurs de l’enfantement face aux maris présents dans les salles d’accouchement.
