Abstract
Algunos estudios que toman como marco referencial de investigación la ciudad de Barranquilla, han profundizado sobre algunos cambios y transformaciones económicas y sociales que ésta experimentó en las postrimerías del siglo XIX e inicios del XX. Dichas transformaciones matizaron un discurso historiográfico épico sobre la ciudad, otorgándole las características de una de las ciudades más modernas y pionera de América Latina, razón por la cual, se le otorgó el epíteto de “La Puerta de Oro de Colombia”, a la urbe.
