Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

In an exploratory study, we describe how performing arts organizations in Quebec are attempting, through cultural facilitation (CF) and the implementation of digital devices, to promote school-age attendance at performances, and to foster familiarity with, and appreciation of, art disciplines, or even to encourage artistic expression among youth. By means of a qualitative survey performed through semi-structured interviews with representatives of nineteen (19) production or distribution organizations of theatre, dance, circus and multidisciplinary arts, we describe the CF perceptions and practices aimed at school-aged audiences using digital technology. It can be concluded that digital cultural facilitation is a CF that makes use of digital technology, using networks, devices, software applications and/or multimodal content, in configurations specific to each action. For a CF to be itself digital, it should borrow strictly digital modalities in order to establish a link with a human. The perspective in which the consulted organizations work, one of cultural democratization or cultural democracy, influences their CF actions and leads to a large variety in their use of digital technology. Certainly, when connecting schools remotely, digital technology, through various websites and social media, conduces to the expansion of audiences, which is beneficial to distribution organizations. When mobilized by creators in schools through different incentive programs from the Minister of Education, digital technology obtains tools and resources for facilitation that encourages the development of youth expression, and at the same time nourishes the creative process. Accordingly, we can conclude that digital technology contributes to the extension of cultural facilitation’s boundaries in education.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
