Abstract
En 1651, paraissent pour la première fois les lettres envoyées de Rome par Rabelais à Geoffroy d’Estissac entre décembre 1535 et février 1536. Cette étude met en évidence comment les éditeurs de ces lettres, messieurs de Sainte-Marthe, inventent le corpus épistolaire des lettres d’Italie de Rabelais, dans le double sens du mot, c’est-à-dire comment ils exhument des textes inédits et comment, par ailleurs, ils construisent un objet textuel qui, dans une large mesure, est une fabrication éditoriale.
