Abstract
This chapter will focus on THz photoconductivity in materials as measured by non-contact, time-resolved broadband spectroscopy. The technology used to generate and detect coherent pulses of broadband THz light and the techniques used to acquire the THz optical response of the material will be reviewed. The application of THz pulses to the photoconductivity dynamics of semiconductors will be examined through time-resolved THz spectroscopy (TRTS). It is a powerful technique that permits mapping photoconductivity dynamics on femtosecond time scales faster than any other technique. Quasiparticle excitations including plasmon, phonon, coupled modes, and excitons and their dynamics will be discussed. THz photoconductivity dynamics in isolated and nanoparticle ensembles will be discussed.
