Abstract
Josefa Mónica Fernández de Alvarado, marquesa de Espeja (1765-1826) fue socia de la Junta de Damas de la Real Sociedad Económica Matritense de Amigos del País y contribuyó a la circulación de las ideas durante la Ilustración. Sus traducciones de Zanotti y Condillac fueron muy apreciadas por su mérito literario. En su retrato, obra de Antonio Poza, ella aparece junto a sus dos obras, resaltando su labor de traductora. Su traducción de Erasmus Darwin permanece inédita, pero no se conserva. Este artículo ofrece una semblanza biográfica, analiza sus traducciones y estrategias de traducción, caracterizadas por la fidelidad a los textos originales, la pulcritud, un alto grado de habilidad lingüística y su propósito de dirigirse a una comunidad de mujeres lectoras.
