Abstract
Depuis l’invasion américaine de l’Irak, en 2003, la géographie du christianisme irakien a connu de nombreux changements. Parmi les plus remarquables d’entre eux figure la transformation de la municipalité d’Ankawa, banlieue chrétienne d’Erbil, capitale de la région autonome du Kurdistan irakien. En effet, cette dernière constitue désormais la nouvelle vitrine de la mosaïque chrétienne en Irak. Or, peut-on affirmer pour autant qu’Ankawa se soit substituée à Bagdad, capitale de l’Irak, en tant qu’épicentre de la chrétienté irakienne ? C’est qu’en dépit d’une diminution marquée du nombre de chrétiens à Bagdad, le maintien d’une présence significative dans la première ville d’Irak constitue toujours un enjeu majeur pour la communauté chrétienne du pays. Entre Erbil et Bagdad, les chrétiens irakiens apparaissent ainsi contraints d’opérer un acte d’équilibrisme [balancing act] afin de s’assurer d’un avenir en Irak.
