Abstract
Este trabajo ofrece un panorama abarcador de la situación del español como lengua comunitaria y como lengua de herencia en la provincia de Quebec, con especial relación a la Región metropolitana de Montreal, espacio geográfico que concentra el mayor número de hispanos de todo el país. Para ello, se presenta la influencia de las lenguas mayoritarias (francés e inglés) y algunos de los rasgos gramaticales y léxicos de contacto tanto en el habla de los jóvenes como en la de los hablantes adultos. Por lo que respecta a la conservación del español como lengua de herencia, existe una multitud de factores implicados, a pesar de la falta de una “política lingüística” explícita en el hogar. Por último, se analiza un caso concreto de transferencia lingüística directa del francés: el uso de mismo si (‘aunque, incluso si’) como elemento estructuralmente compatible que se registra en el habla de todos los inmigrantes.
