Abstract
Pendant près d’un mois, une équipe d’archéologues, de géophysiciens et un géomorphologue ont arpenté le territoire de Miquelon-Langlade à la recherche de vestiges laissés par les populations ayant fréquenté ou habité ces îles, que ce soit il y a 2000 ans ou il y a une centaine d’années. Les méthodes mises en œuvre pour y parvenir allient prospections de surface, levés au drone, prospections géophysiques et prélèvements. Dans un premier temps, grâce à un travail de géoréférencement des cartes anciennes, les recherches ont porté surtout sur les occupations anciennes européennes autour de l’Anse de Miquelon. Ces travaux ont permis de suivre l’évolution de l’habitat durant les trois derniers siècles. Dans un second temps, les recherches de terrain ont été étendues à d’autres secteurs à fort potentiel comme l’ancienne ferme de Mirande ou le Grand Barachois où des habitats temporaires associés à des amas coquilliers ont été reconnus. Enfin, des sites plus anciens ont été découverts sur la Presqu’île où une occupation paléo-Inuit a été reconnue, ou encore au Fond de l’Anse où ce sont les traces d’un groupe amérindien qui ont été mises en évidence.
