Spécialiste de longue date de Max Weber, Keith Tribe est l'un des historiens de la pensée économique allemande les plus qualifiés pour contextualiser l'œuvre de l'auteur d'Économie et Société dans les débats de l'époque en pensée sociale et économique.On doit à Tribe autant des publications ciblées sur la sociologie de Weber, que des ouvrages sur l'histoire de la pensée économique allemande (2017) ; l'édition d'essais sur Weber et d'essais de Weber concernant les relations entre l'État et le développement économique (Tribe, 1989), ainsi qu'un ouvrage général sur l'histoire de la pensée économique (Tribe, 2015).C'est donc un historien économique doté d'une connaissance acérée de l'histoire des idées politiques et économiques allemandes qui se donne ici comme objectif de rédiger une nouvelle traduction et édition d'Économie et Société, un ouvrage aussi fondamental que structurant de la discipline sociologie.
