A partir do emprego da expressão “candura provinciana” em texto diarístico de Dalcídio Jurandir a respeito de Bernardo Élis, este artigo propõe uma discussão acerca da literatura como empreendimento coletivo e das consequências da posição solipsista do escritor, usando como apoio argumentativo outros textos de Dalcídio e uma carta de Mário Faustino. O artigo se inspira nos princípios da Crítica Biográfica, como apresentados por Eneida Maria de Souza e utiliza textos inéditos consultados nos acervos da Fundação Casa de Rui Barbosa, em pesquisa financiada pelo CNPq.
